History
Everything began in 1860, when Edouard Heuer started his first watch shop in the small village St-Imier from Switzerland under the name of Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG. The company became Tag Heuer when it was bought by Techniques d'Avant Garde 25 years later.

The name mixes the abbreviation from Techniques d'Avant Garde (TAG) with the founder's name, Heuer. The prezent slogan of the company is ”Swiss Avant-Garde Since 1860″. - The first chronograph was patented in 1882 and 5 years later Edouard showed to the world the oscillating pinion, a device still used for mechanical chronographs.
In the 1910s, Heuer has already started his collaborations with automobiles and airoplanes companies. From this period is worth mentioning the first dashboard chronograph with the “Time of Trip” patent. The structure consisted of two large hands found in the center of pinion (showing the day time) and two small hands mounted at the top of the dial (for measuring the progress of the trip). For setting the functions, Heuer placed a top crown with a button on it.

- Adapting the pocket chronographs to the wrist, Edouard Heuer creates the first wrist chrnograph in 1914. 2 years later he introduces the Micrograph, the first stopwatch with 1/100 of a second, followed by the Semikrograph, which had a 1/50 of a second.
- Creating a dashboard timer for cars and planes in 1933, Heuer names it Autoavia (a combination from “aut”-omobiles and “avia”-tion). He continues with a chronograph for pilots in 1935 entitled “Flieger”.
- In the 1950s, Heuer designs the “Seafarer” and “Auto-Graph” for the american retailer Abercrombie & Fitch. A variant of the Seafarer is produced for his company as well, under the name of “Mareographe”.
- 10 years later Heuer was already a leader among the haute horology producers for car racing events and it became a trend that racers would wear its watch.
In 1962, Heuer has become the first Swiss watch to be worn in space. While piloting the Mercury Atlas 6, John Glenn wore a TAG Heuer which today can be found at the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
- Today's very popular carrera was introduced in 1963. Designed by Jack heuer, it had a simple pattern, with only registers and markers on the dial.
Many movements created in that period were made by Valijoux, among I mention the Valijoux 72 and 92 movement, that had three registers on the dial (for chronograph hours, minutes and seconds).
The Chronosplit is presented in 1975, a digital chronograph containing LED and LCD displays.

Another important movement designed by Heuer in this period is the Lemania movement, and the most important one (Lemania 5100) is still used at 10 models.
In 1985 Heuer collaborated with formula 1 and created ceramic turbochargers.
The “Pendulum Concept” was introduced in 2010 and was the first magnetic oscillator that didn't had hairspring, but provided restoring torque.

In the present time, the company is based in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland and guided by CEO Jean-Claude Biver. Jack Heuer, the great grandson of Edouard Heuer is the Honorary Chairman.
